edited IVIC biography of José María Cruxent
Precursor of archeology Venezuela and Latin America for many years at Falcon
"The spirit of matter" was written by sociologist Catalan Ferran Cabrero, coordinator of the Indigenous Initiative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The theory always was clear: America was populated long time before the English occupation. Even dared to ensure that human origins on this continent can be traced back at least 30,000 years before present (BP), reaching the Paleoindian period, the longest in American prehistory, a period that culminated in 1492 with the arrival Christopher Columbus lands unknown.
Throughout his life, José María Cruxent (Catalonia 1911-Venezuela 2005) attempted to demonstrate the vast age and racial diversity of men and women born on this side of the world, organizing and participating in numerous archaeological campaigns across the national territory and beyond our borders. Among the most famous and controversial excavations made by the scientist are: Nueva Cádiz (Cubagua Island, Venezuela), La Isabela (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic), Pedregal River Valley and Taima-Taima (Coro, Falcon), and Franco-Venezuelan expedition to the headwaters of the Orinoco.
The spirit of matter Cruxent reveals to whom many were associated as a colleague and coworker, but few had the opportunity to get to know as a person. The play was written by Ferran Cabrero, a native of Catalonia sociologist who out of curiosity and affinity (both were Catalans and were currently voluntary exile), decided to move to the city of Coro, in November 2003 to discuss for two days with founder of the Center of Anthropology of the Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Científicas (IVIC), which by then was 92 years old.
"It's a passionate man, one of the pioneers of modern social science. The issue that perhaps makes the difference is this spirit and these desires and love for freedom, with its contrasts. It was a brave person and posted by its nature "Cabrera said during the christening of the book, published recently by the editorial of IVIC, Ediciones IVIC, as part of the" Biography Series "on promoters of science researchers in Venezuela. Currently, Cabrero coordinates the project "Indigenous Initiative" of the Democratic Governance Team of the Regional Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and directs the Higher Diploma in Cultural Management Faculty Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO), based in Ecuador.
